When our beloved Nabi Muhammad Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam blessed the city of Madinah Munawwarah with his mubarak presence after the long journey of Hijrah (migration), there was a young man, Julaibeeb radiallahu anhu, who was instantly captivated by the sight of the best of creation. The love of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam penetrated deep into his heart immediately. This youngster had no wealth or family, so he took-up residence in the Musjid of Rasullulah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam amongst the As-haabus Suffah.
The food he received was either from the gifts received by Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam or the sadaqa given by the Sahaaba. He was a well-liked youngster who was easy going and jovial. One day, Nabi Kareem Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked him, “Do you not want to marry oh Julaibeeb?” Julaibeeb replied, “who will marry me oh Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam? I am a poor youngster with no money to pay Mahr or support a wife.”
Just take a moment to marvel at the beautiful response of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He said to Julaibeeb, “I will find you a pious wife and Allah will take care of you both”
It was the habit of the Sahaaba that when any of their daughters were of marriageable age, they would first offer her in marriage to Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam out of respect and honour. Some time had passed and no one had come forward to Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam who would be suitable for Julaibeeb. Therefore He sent a proposal on behalf of Julaibeeb to an Ansaari Sahaabi asking him for his daughters hand in marriage. Both husband and wife were extremely hesitant and thought of excuses they could present in order to refuse this proposal. They felt that Julaibeeb was a man of no status or wealth whereas their daughter was of a high social standing. Whilst discussing the way forward, this intelligent young girl insisted to her parents that she will marry Julaibeeb as she refused to turn away the suggestion of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was so pleased by her acceptance that he made a special dua for her, “Oh Allah, Engulf her in goodness and do not allow her life go in vain”. Thereafter He got them married. Julaibeeb was overjoyed and thrilled but before he could even spend time with his new bride, the call for Jihaad was announced. Julaibeeb immediately acceded to the call of Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, prepared himself for battle and left his new bride without even spending a night in her company.
After the battle was over, Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked if anyone was missing as per His usual habit. The Sahaaba replied in the negative. However, Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “I do not see Julaibeeb, Look for him!” They searched for him in the battlefield until they eventually found him. He had killed 7 Mushrikeen on his way to meet Allah as a Shaheed (matyr).
Rasullullah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stood by his side and repeated the following words three time, “he is from me and I am from him”. These words coming from the most Mubarak of lips sends shivers down the spine. Could he have asked for anything more?
Shortly thereafter, the Sahaaba dug his grave. Nabi Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stood up, carried Julaibeeb in his Mubarak arms and lowered him into his final resting place. Ohh how fortunate you are oh Julaibeeb!
