Question

Respected Moulana
Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuhu
We have entered into the last term of our Madrasah year and I have found that the boys in my class are losing interest in learning their daily Qur-aan sabak. This is making it very difficult for me to teach them. Please advise me on how I can keep them motivated and interested in their Qur-aan lessons till the end of the year.

May Allah Ta’ala accept your concern and fikr for your students and their attachment to the Qur-aan Shareef.
Below are some guidelines for the teachers to follow. Insha Allah you will find the pupils to be motivated till the end of the year. May Allah Ta’ala make you successful in your endeavours.

  1. Most importantly, we as teachers must always be motivated. Our motivation and passion towards teaching Qur-aan will play out in our student’s performance. Keep on focusing on the Ahaadith that explain the virtues of teaching Qur-aan.
  2. Read out to them the virtues of learning the Qur-aan and reciting it correctly. The Fazaail-e-Aamaal has many Ahaadith in the section of Fazaail-e-Qur-aan. Prepare some mawaad (notes) daily and come to class. By listening to the Ahaadith, they will feel motivated to read better and put more effort in learning their work.
  3. Create incentives for the best readers in the class like prizes, awards, money, etc. and thereafter encourage them to win the prize. More importantly remind them that the best prize will be given to them on the day of Qiyaamah by Allah Ta’ala Himself.
  4. Have the best students to recite in the Madrasah Jalsah. In this way every student will work hard to qualify to read in the Jalsah.
  5. Once a week have a mini jalsah in the class where the best readers are made to recite. Encourage pupils to try hard so that they can be accepted to recite.
  6. Once or twice a year have a Qiraat Jalsah at the Madrasah where the best reciters are made to read. You may also invite a good Qaari to come and attend this Jalsah and recite at the end. Such Jalsahs really motivate pupils to improve their recitation.
  7. Get the recordings of some good reciters and let the pupils listen to them in the class.
  8. Contact the parents asking them to also encourage their children and spend some time with them daily at night teaching them their sabaks.
  9. Most importantly, take out time daily and make dua for them that Allah Ta’ala bless them with the true love for the Qur-aan Shareef.

May Allah Ta’ala accept your concern for your students and make you successful in your endeavours. Aameen.
Was Salaam
